It’s been said that half the fuel used in the world goes to the cooking of food. We use more fuel for cooking than we do for driving our cars

Plethora of Fruit - Raw Foods Diet: Day 10

Raw Foods Diet: Day 10
Woke up feeling VERY dry today. My lips have no moisture on them whatsoever. I woke up first at 3:00 A.M. then went back to bed until 5:30 A.M. The 3:00 A.M. wake up is becoming a regular thing. Maybe 7.5 hours is too much, and my body only needs 6 hours?

Mind
Remembered two dreams today! Remained pretty sharp throughout the day, but didn’t do as much as I would have liked. I’ve had better “mind” days, but then again, I’ve also had worse.

Body

  • Weight: – 160.4 +/-: -1.0 today/-5.6 total
  • Blood Pressure: – 114/70 +/-: -10/-4 today/-7/-8 total
  • Body Temperature (two averages): – 97.3 +/-: -0.7 today/+0.3 total
  • Resting Heart Rate (three averages): – 60 +/-: -6 today/-8 total
  • Food Eaten
I didn’t eat as much as I had wanted to, but I ran out of a lot of food! Eek! I put a bunch of the bananas in the freezer, but I need other food, I can’t just live off of bananas, especially not now when I’m getting quite sick of the yellow, peel-able, demon fruit.

    Meal 1
    2 bananas, 2 oranges, 2 apples

    Meal 2
A smoothie consisting of: 3 Kale leaves (de-veined), 3 bananas, 1 orange. Gotta love your green smoothies. Good way to start the day.

    Meal 3
3 bananas, 1 avocado. I had a real bad craving for cooked food. The avocado really helped with that.

    Meal 4
2 bananas, 1 avocado, and a smoothie consisting of: 2 apples, 2 bananas, and 1 chunk of pineapple. I only ended up drinking half of this.

    Overall
I’d rank this as a medium day. My cold sore really started bothering me at night, and I wasn’t as hungry as I usually am. I had some intense cooked food cravings when I was hungry, and I quelled those with three bananas and an avocado. The desire for unhealthy food hasn’t completely left.

haha, ya, I keep having cravings for fish and chips but no fried food for me anymore. you should get something for the cold sore at a pharmacy, at least you wont feel so crappy from that. also, just a suggestion, but go shopping for some really different types of fruits and veggies. you know take a look at some different types and see what the nutritional values are and then try those. maybe look at diff. recipes you could make too to try and switch it up a bit. anyway, rock on with your fine self and this whole deal. your heart rate is still going down so I would say thats a good thing. anytime it grows weak and fast and you have shallow rapid breathing, then you are in trouble, but if its nice and strong and slow, then its healthy. keep up the good work!!

“If I had such a slow enough metabolism that you would consider me ectothermic, wouldn’t I have the most incredibly easy time building muscle? I could easily gain weight just from eating this raw foods diet!

Your higher temperature could also mean you are sick. There are people who have literally had a fever all their lives, or a cold. Some raw foodists talk about people starting a raw food diet to finally get rid of that cold that they have had for so long.”

I am transporting this quote from Chris a couple days ago to today. First off, not that you could be a true ectotherm, because then you would be some sort of reptile or something, but that would be very suspicious if you were. lol
But as far as the sickness goes, no I have thought about that route and the doctors have ruled that out. One possibility for the higher body temp besides a higher metabolism, which could indeed be the reason for it, is that of my asthma. I have heard that asthma is like an overactive immune system and perhaps its hyperactivity results in a higher body temperature but I do not have any proof of this. I do know though that it is not illness related.
One possible other form of proof towards the higher metabolism scenario is that if I didnt have a high metabolism then all those days of eating over 5000 calories a day, and yes, I was eating for most of the day to get at that, resulted in not weight gain, not even half a pound, on my part. I would also rather have a high metabolism so that any food I ate while running was utilized more quickly and not just left to sit around while I do all the work.

One last thing. Have you checked your body fat % using one of those electric resistance things they have a health clubs? perhaps all the weight you are losing is from just fat and after a while, you might be able to build muscle while not adding any fat. this would be interesting to see. I assume any blood work you get will look for the hormones that are released when muscles are injured or burned for fuel? These are the same hormones that are seen in massive amounts in heart attack patients, and in marathoners and ultramarathoners after a race.

Wow, I had never learned so much about how the body works before I came on this site. You guys are amazing with the limits you push your body to. Good luck, Chris, I agree with Blake. Something topical for your cold sore and some more food variety would be good. Could the dryness also be the temperature out there? Could it be something simple like that?

    4. Rebecca Says:

P.S., your soliloquy’s are a hard act to follow, Blake. Your answers are so thorough.

      Blake,

Quote transporting? Really? I thought better of you…

Actually, I liked how you did that. I love the conversational aspect of blogs, so it is cool that they can be continued.

I expect to lose weight. It used to make me cringe, but now my one goal on the raw foods diet is to just become healthier. If my strength levels aren’t falling through the floor, I won’t let any weight loss bother me. If I kept up this diet, I am sure I would get quite skinny before I would be able to bulk up. That might be its own interesting experiment, whether or not it would be possible to actually increase muscle mass, instead of just NOT losing it, and to what degree could you do that?

      Rebecca,

Thanks!!! About the dryness, yes it could. It could definitely just be the weather, so this is something I have to keep in mind.

I agree. Blake knows his stuff.
