Raw Foods Diet: Day 11
Once again, I woke up with little moisture. I don’t know what it is, but it is starting to wear on me. If this is just an accepted trait of the raw foods diet, there is absolutely no way it is worth continuing after the 30 days. If it isn’t, and it’s just a “detox” symptom, then that is something else entirely. Either way, tomorrow I really need to get something for the sore inside my mouth. No more waiting for this raw foods diet to heal it.
Mind
Eh… today I did quite a lot of cleaning. I didn’t do anything mind-related, and felt a little bit irritable at the start of the day. My place looks a lot better though!
Body
Food Eaten
I ran out of food and it showed. I didn’t make it to Whole Foods until nearly 2 P.M. so I did not get very much food in today. I did get more variety than I normally do, so that’s always good.
Meal 1
2 bananas, 1 avocado
Meal 2
1 banana
Meal 3
1 orange, 1 celery stalk
Meal 4
2 bananas and a Guacamole-esque thing (1/4 onion, 1 tomato, 2 avocados) with 4 celery stalks. This was pretty good. Better than I thought it would be at least. I didn’t eat all of it, and will finish the rest tomorrow hopefully.
Meal 5
1 banana
Overall
As far as productivity is concerned, I did get a lot done cleaning-wise; however, I didn’t do much else. What I had been calling a “cold sore” I guess is called a “canker sore”. Canker is a great word to describe it. If “canker” was a mood, this is what that sore would put me in.
Now, a canker sore can be caused by a lot of things. Even simply biting your lip or cheek could, and probably would, cause one. You know what else can? Deficiencies. Like Vitamin B12.
Now, do I think that is really the case? No. The body SHOULD have quite a lot of B12 stored up to where its inconsequential, but it is still interesting. It could also mean my immune system isn’t up to par. Or, I could have bitten my lip in my sleep. Either way, I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all.

Hi! I’m sorry you’re having some struggles, but they’re not uncommon when you go Raw. Every time I go off Raw and then back on, I get canker sores. They suck, but they do go away on their own, especially if I’m getting lots of greens/green smoothies. As for the dehydration, NO that’s NOT a normal part of being Raw. It doesn’t look like you’re eating a lot of juicy foods, so make sure you’re getting enough water. Lots and lots of water.

is your place very dry? I mean its winter in chicago and maybe its just the low humidity thats causing this dryness. have you thought about a humidifier? Is the rest of your skin dry too? I mean maybe its just a matter of needing some chapstick or something too. it could in fact be the foods but I would think that there would be plenty of vit. E in what you eat so that shouldnt be it, but perhaps it is because you are in a new place for the winter and its just a matter of humidity. also, if you did bite your lip and it is a canker, i have heard that eating a lot of fruit does not help it go away. the ascorbic acid in fruits can irritate it versus heal it. anywho hows the workouts going? still have the energy level up for those?

“Do vegetarians eat animal crackers?” is a George Carlin joke.

Rebecca,
i think i just took one of your suggestions from yesterday with the weather in chicago deal. also, i agree that i tend to ramble on a bit, or that my soliloquies are hard to follow as you so eloquently put it, so ill try to keep them a bit more concise. good idea with the weather though, thats what i was thinkin it was too.

Having canker sores is a common detoxification symptom. I had them in my first week of switching to 100% raw. But they went away in a few days.
There are many factors to consider in being successful with a raw food diet. One of which is simply doing the diet properly.
Chances of initial success of doing this on one’s own are on the very low side. It really helps to have a raw food diet coach to help out. There are a number of pitfalls on the road to going raw. Some dietary, other old habits, some cultural, some having to do with pressure from family and friends.
In some ways it’s harder than giving up cigarettes, drugs or alcohol. But with the right ideas it’s easy.
I point a number of these issues out on my latest blog post.
Good luck with the trial, Roger Haeske

I thihnk it’s pretty hilarious that you called your canker sore a cold sore haha. My grandma has a great cream for those, you should look into it. Though I don’t know what it’s called, so good luck with that haha.
Keep up the great work!!

Aww, poor thing, those canker sores hurt! I hope you find something to help with that.
Blake- I meant hard to follow, like the comic that has to go on after Seinfeld or something. Like, yours were so great that I had nothing left to add. You are definitely concise, my friend!
By the way, my mom gets really dry skin being in upstate New York. She uses lots of Lubriderm and medicated skin cremes. I don’t need those here in Cali as it is around 75 lately!

Candice,
Thanks for the comment!! I am definitely going to keep track of my water intake through the color of my urine, how often I am going to the bathroom, and the quantity. I knew how to see if you were dehydrated or not, but I don’t think I was paying CLOSE enough attention.
Giant,
If fruit doesn’t help it go away, I might be in a bit of a bind…
Chicago is known for higher humidity, so why would I feel more dry?
Austin,
Thanks, but where I got it from it said unknown. Can you confirm he was the first to say it, or did he just repeat it?
Roger,
Thanks for commenting on my blog! I have been a reader of your site for quite some time, and am on the mailing list, so I DO have help!
Will I succeed? Well, I’m succeeding so far as I am still eating 100% uncooked, organic, vegan foods. It’s not easy, but having a blog gives me a lot of accountability. I could never do it without my wonderful readers!!
Kate,
I don’t find it so funny! I guess they are more different than I thought. When I told people I had a cold sore, I think people thought I was crazy because you wouldn’t be able to see it – thus it’s not a cold sore.
Rebecca,
I thank you for your sympathy. What is it about upstate New York that gives her dry skin?
I normally have dry skin. In fact, it is quite dry. But I still wake up feeling normal. These past few days I woke up feeling very parched and dry. This was abnormal.
