Raw Foods Diet: Day 4
Today I did not seem to need as much sleep. I woke up a little before 4 A.M. and was able to get started right away. Do I need less sleep on this diet? I had heard people claim this, but is far too early to know for sure.
Mind
Today was a great day for the mind! I had two dreams, and I woke up after each with perfect dream recall. I shortened the Morning Pages to just Morning Page and I think that helped, as I found the exercise particularly interesting today. I found it extremely easy to write too, and just couldn’t seem to stop writing once I started. In my notes, I had written down that “mental clarity has sky rocketed” so that is certainly good news.
Body
Food Eaten
Today I had a very interesting experience: a taste difference. The tangelo I ate tasted much more bitter than it did before. It could be that the tangelo itself was bad, but it looked perfectly fine.
Also, I am going to change my wording of shake to smoothie. It’s just cooler.
Meal 1
3 and 1/4 bananas, 1 tangelo, and a smoothie consisting of: 2 and 3/4 bananas, 1 tangelo, and 2 strawberries. I love these fruit smoothies!
Meal 2
2 small apples, and 2 bananas. When I bought these apples, I figured they were a good deal. But then I found out how ridiculously small they are. I have also noticed that things are becoming much more sweet. I could barely finish the two apples.
Meal 3
2 bananas, 2 strawberries, and 1 salad consisting of: lots of lettuce, 1 avocado, and lots of grape tomatoes. Too many grape tomatoes, in fact.
Meal 4
1 banana, and 1 Asian pear. This was a very good meal until the end. I guess I only like Asian pears in small amounts, as by the end, the pear almost seemed too moist.
Meal 5
1 avocado. This was eaten at 12:30 A.M. with the intention of putting me back to sleep. It worked!
Overall
I woke up with a slightly stuffed nose and a bit of a sore throat. This is probably from the cold I got randomly last night, but seems to have cleared up. Could it be a detoxification symptom or a cause of the freezing cold Chicago winter? Physically I felt about the same, but when working out, I found myself wanting to do more. It was a bizarre feeling.
I felt tired after my salad, but that could be as a result of the avocado in it. I also went to bed quite early, at around 6:30 P.M. I woke up at 12:30 A.M., had an avocado, and went back to bed until 4 A.M.! Avocados now seem to have a great effect on me as far as sleep goes, but did I really need roughly nine hours of sleep?

interesting that your resting heart rate has gone up. It would seem that if you really needed less sleep that you body would agree as well. however, a lack of good sleep is one very good thing to raise your resting heart rate. as you get healthier, your heart rate should decrease, not increase. actually i should try and train myself to measure mine, but I cant get myself to do anything when I first wake up. maybe I should get a heart rate monitor. that would be very beneficial. hmm

Giant,
What the measurements have show thus far is that everything would fall within a margin of error. The fact that my blood pressure was that high on Day 1 changes some of the measurements as well. Things will fluctuate. My resting heart rate could be higher because I am increasing my physical intensity. I’m not quite sure. Either way, if it continues, it will be an interesting, and troubling, find.
I have a heart rate monitor, somewhere…
During the course of this diet I find it much easier to be alert as soon as I wake up. This makes my morning measuring routine a breeze. Basically, I wake up, grab my iPod, and use the stopwatch feature and relax for three minutes. Then I measure my heart rate for one minute. Has worked well thus far!
