Raw Foods Diet: Day 7
I actually got up at around 3 A.M. and could not go back to bed! I felt refreshed, and got enough sleep, but boy, is that early. Who on earth gets up at that time? I used to not even be tired by 3 A.M. How things have changed…
In other news, it’s been a week! I’ve included graphs of my progress in this entry (Weight, Blood Pressure, Temperature, Resting Heart Rate) so you can see what has changed, what hasn’t, and what’s pretty much meaningless so far.
Mind
Today was tough! I had all kinds of cravings, although I bet it didn’t help much to look at food-related blogs. I also felt irritable at different times, yet I hope I didn’t show it…
Body
Trend? – Definitely. I am losing weight and it is a fairly steady decline.
Week 1 High – Day 1 at 166.0 pounds.
Week 1 Low – Day 7 at 162.0 pounds.
Difference: – 4 pounds.
Analysis: Tough to say if this is necessarily JUST because of a raw foods diet. I am probably taking in quite a lot of water, so I am sure some of this is water weight, but it does look promising as I definitely never let myself feel hungry for long and could eat whatever I wanted.
Trend? – Looking at the chart, it would seem certain that there was a pattern, but blood pressure readings are always tricky.
Week 1 High – Day 1 at 121.
Week 1 Low – Day 7 at 98.
Difference: – 23.
Analysis: Either I am getting better at controlling my blood pressure, my cuff is broken, or this raw foods diet may have some merit to it after all. Too early to tell.
Trend? – Absolutely not. The data for the diastolic readings have been too inconsistent.
Week 1 High – Day 5 at 79.
Week 1 Low – Day 3 at 68.
Difference: – 11.
Analysis: It will be interesting to go through this log once I am done, looking through all the measurements and blood/urine readings, to possibly judge what caused these different readings. Is blood pressure too finicky or did I have different stressors on these different days?
Trend? – Yes, and one that I didn’t expect at all. My temperature seems to be going up!
Week 1 High – Day 1 at 97.0 degrees Fahrenheit.
Week 1 Low – Day 6 at 97.9 degrees Fahrenheit.
Difference: + 0.9 degrees Fahrenheit.
Analysis: – One possibility could be that my temperature was too low, and this diet could be “normalizing it.” I’m not too sure yet.
Trend? – Not really. There isn’t too much significance with this reading yet.
Week 1 High – Day 3 at 59 beats per minute.
Week 1 Low – Days 4 and 5 at 77 beats per minute.
Difference: + 18 beats per minute.
Analysis: I am not worried about my resting heart rate difference being so high, because it has gone back down at the end of the week, and this, like blood pressure readings, vary wildly. I definitely need more data before I can make any assumptions at all.
Control: I am going to buy myself another thermometer to check against my current one, as well as try to keep my measurement times more specific, as that could be affecting the results. Overall, it doesn’t matter if my actual measurements are off, because what is more important is tracking progress. If my blood pressure, for example, is actually higher or lower than what I am getting now, then that won’t really matter. What matters is that it appears to be going in a downward direction.
Food Eaten
I had a pretty filling day. I ate more vegetables in my smoothies and even tried a new one! Pineapple was a great addition to the end of the first week. I find myself slowly eating more and more food, as my body adjusts.
Meal 1
1 avocado – This was to try to go back to sleep, it didn’t work, but it did make me a bit tired. Obviously, a risky move that didn’t pay off this time.
Meal 2
2 bananas, 1 orange, and smoothie consisting of: 3 bananas, 1 orange, 1 tangelo, and 3 strawberries
Meal 3
1 banana
Meal 4
2 bananas, 2 small apples, 2 oranges
Meal 5
A smoothie consisting of: 3 bananas and a handful of baby spinach
Meal 6
1 orange and 1 avocado – I couldn’t help myself! Avocados are delicious!
Meal 7
A smoothie consisting of: 3 kale leaves (de-veined), 2 big chunks of pineapple, and 2 bananas – Wowie wow wow was this ever good! I thought I’d never use the kale I got!
Overall
Today was a tough day, so I am glad I was able to get through it. I really feel that the cravings and the irritability were a result of this diet. I’m not sure why, but it was pretty abnormal for me (although some might say differently).
Week 1 is in the bucket! 1 down, 3 to go (and some change). So far so good. This diet is convenient, gives me a good amount of energy, usually keeps me focused, and seems like it could provide even more down the road. There are still far more questions than answers, but I am glad I have tried this experiment.

Hi, so glad to hear you adding vegetables. I have many great ideas for salads with my delicious balsamic dressing. When you want to eat cooked foods, I have some fabulous vegetarian stir fry recipes with fresh herbs, (very quick and easy).
Way to go Chris– you have taught me a lot about the power of the mind.
if your mind can conceive it, you can achieve it.

Wow, one week! That is such an accomplishment! I’m glad you’re adding more vegetables, even if just for some variety.

Kate,
Thanks! Who doesn’t love graphs? Eye candy!
Rebecca,
Thanks for the compliment. This isn’t a fruitarian diet, so I definitely am watching my vegetable intake.
